My Story

When I was born the doctor, using a pair of forceps, missed my temples and instead grasped me by the back of the head and right eye. This caused damage to the lens and made me legally blind. I have never known stereoscopic vision or what it’s like to truly see things in three dimensions. Depth is merely a perception to me.

But…

I can honestly say that the physical blindness does not compare to the spiritual blindness I have suffered through most of my life. Thinking I was a Christian, but not really knowing or seeing the effects of God in my life. All the while, I was content to live in my religiosity. After All!! I had been baptized! I knew about church and prayer! Although I rarely had time for either. That is, unless, my life was in turmoil. That was the only time I really needed the crutch … I mean “church”.

And then one day…

A co-worker started to question me about Faith, the Law and the Bible. I should mention that this co-worker was not interested in spiritual enlightenment for himself. He was in fact, an atheist who would spend the next several weeks trying to beat me into submission with his liberal thoughts and ideologies. Although I did not waiver in my belief, I realized that I did not know why I believed what I believed. There was no foundation to my spiritual life, just religion.

In Matt. 13:5-6 the parable of “The Sower and the seed”, Jesus says,

"Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. 6 "But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

This was the cycle of my life; from one trap to the next with a little church in between to help me along the way. Well, this time was a little different for me in that

I did not whither away, but instead sought the answers to questions he posed and questions in my own head now planted by the seed of doubt.

It was in seeking these answers that I was finally introduced to Jesus Christ for, really, the first time. I was shown my eternal destiny in scripture. Jesus said to the church at Laodicea in Rev. 3:15-16

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.

NASU

I was making my Savior sick to the point of throwing up! Now, these are pretty tough words from a “Loving God”. Many people ask, “How can you worship a God like that?” when the real question is, “How can a just and righteous God accept sinful man into his presence?” I’ll tell you how!

Jesus Christ! Jesus is the answer! He said in John 14:6

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

NASU

It was Christ’s sacrifice on the cross that allows me (Sinful Man!) to fellowship with the Father. All I had to do was accept It. I have now fully accepted Christ’s payment for my life of sin and disobedience. He has lifted the religious blindness from my eyes. GIVEN ME SIGHT! And now I have a relationship with the Father and see Him in all His glory and splendor.

Don’t allow religious blindness to keep you from a true relationship with the Father. Accept Christ’s free gift of redemption, repent from whatever is driving the wedge and allow Him to bless and fellowship with you the way He has always longed to. I leave you with this final thought from the poem titled, “A New Leaf”.

He came to my desk with quivering lip;

The lesson was done.

May I have a new sheet, dear teacher?

I’ve spoiled this one.

So I took his sheet all spoiled and blotted;

And gave him a new one - all unspotted;

Then into his sad eyes smiled;

“Do better now, my child.”

I came to the throne with quivering heart;

The old year was done.

May I have a new year, dear Master?

I’ve spoiled this one.

So He took my year all spoiled and blotted;

And gave me a new one - all unspotted;

Then into my sad heart smiled;

“Do better now, my child.

It’s never too late and you are never too sinful to be forgiven.

1 John 1:9 Says,

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

NASU

But if we continue to PLAY church and not seek a true fellowship, a redeeming relationship with the Father. Then I must warn you of the fate you have in store for you.

1 John 1:5-8

6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

NASU

Christ stands at the door and knocks! The angels in heaven wait to rejoice. As in the parable of the lost sheep.

Luke 15:7

"I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
